Zanjan

Zanjan is the capital city of Zanjan province in.

The city is attributed to Ardeshir Babakan (Papakan), the founder of the Sassanid dynasty. Since Zanjan was located on Ray’s trade route to Azerbaijan, it enjoyed a special strategic position, which had its prosperity for many years.

Zanjan is known as for its beautiful handicraft such as knives, various decorative dishes, traditional sandals and others handicrafts (malileh) made with silver wires. Zanjanian artists make things like various decorative dishes and their special covers as well as silver jewelry. However its most important handicraft is stainless and sharp knives.

UNESCO’s World Heritage

Dome of Soltaniyeh is listed in UNESCO World Heritage and it’s located in Soltaniyeh city in Zanjan province. It has one of the oldest double-shell dome in Iran and one of the largest brick domes in the world just at the theoretical engineering limit for a brick dome and the third largest dome in the world.
